The European Development Days 2018 took place on 6 June 2018 in Brussels, Belgium. ALDA participated in the event through a presentation of its projects related to gender issues: “(Im-) Perfect day: ALDA Europe fighting for a more equal society”.
Organised by the European Commission, the European Development Days (EDD) brings the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. The main thread of EDD 2018 was ‘Women and Girls at the Forefront of Sustainable Development: protect, empower, invest’.
ALDA presented all projects the association is involved in on the topic of gender equality, including WEMIN (Migrant Women Empowerment and Integration), an innovative action implementing and promoting a comprehensive integration model for migrant and refugee women through training, empowerment and mentoring sessions.
Many participants stopped by and showed interest in the project. Migration is indeed one of the most debated topics all over Europe, even though the discourse is often centred around whether or not to welcome further migrants, rather than on how to ensure people who already migrated to European countries are empowered to be actors of change and improvements in the communities they are part of.
