Wemin, at the Raval festival at Barcelona

The Raval Festival is the annual celebration of the Raval Neighborhood and it takes place from 11th to 14th July. Wemin summoned the neighbors to participate in this community activity.

The set of neighbors and social entities join forces to celebrate this cultural event every year, and the multicultural composition of the neighborhood is visible. The program is full of events and, of course, Wemin wanted to be present.

A small gathering of women, nationals and migrants, have worked together to decorate Emili Vendrell Square. Women of all ages (young and not so young) and backgrounds (national, European and third-country nationals) attended this event to demonstrate, once again, that women know how to work together to make improvements to their environment and become, if only for one day, the main protagonists of the event.

The Barcelona's Wemin participants prepared the intervention. Our proposal was to decorate the place in tribute to the culturally diverse women, and in order to make them visible. This action was carried out by them, reflecting the diversity of the neighborhood. 

The choice of theme and motto, Women and Colors, was done in a participatory and open way. The decorations were made with fabrics of different colors, to reflect the intercultural composition of the neighborhood. All the material used was recycled. Through this activity, Wemin express the migrants women's volunteer to foster dialogue and collaboration between women living in the neighborhood.

WEMIN is a 2-year-old project that aims to develop and implement an innovative model for the integration of migrants and refugee shelters in the communities involved. The project addresses the social, educational and professional aspects of the inclusion in European countries of the European Union.
