“Há Manhãs” with the Lisbon Nepal Community
April 28, 2019Empowerment Sessions in Lisbon
The Lisbon model for empowerment sessions implementation encapsulates two different types of sessions, always in a large group dynamic;
- Traditional sessions in a classroom where the informational topics identified in the analysis of needs are addressed by specialists, such as Women Health, National Education System, Political Rights and Access to Job and Digital skills
- More informal sessions which assume the shape of an intercultural meeting exchange, but in which we always address, with a different approach (between "regular women") the same issues identified in the analysis of needs. Those sessions represent the "International breakfast" called “Há Manhãs”.
The classical empowerment sessions started in April with a group of women from several different countries (Nepal, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Brazil, Pakistan, among others).
The first session that was held dealt with women's health: a group of 3 female doctors from the local public health centre and on Political Rights for migrants in Portugal and Ana Varela, a female lawyer working with migrants and refugees in the frame of another project of Renovar a Mouraria, called “No Borders” were the speakers.
The next session will deal with the Portuguese Public Education System thanks to the participation of 2 teachers that belong to the direction of a public school with which Renovar a Mouraria has been developing support work in Portuguese Non-native Language to students who are nationals of "third-world countries".
